According to H.J. Hubert (The Etched Work of Jozef Israëls. Amsterdam, Scheltema En Holkema’s Boekhandel, 1909) ‘Fine impressions of this etching are rather scarce, some of them do not bear the initials: “J.I.” thinly scratched in the right lower corner.’ |
| Description | The scene depicts three children sitting on the dunes. There is no great sense of drama here, simply a relaxing, almost idyllic scene of childhood. The subject would naturally have appealed to Orchar who collected a number of paintings by his friend William McTaggart which captured similar scenes of children at play on the coast. |
