Details Etching. All the Slocombe’s etchings are brown ink on wove, or possibly India, paper.The mount states all 12 belong to the 12 part series titled Rivers of the East Coast. Only 200 sets were published.

Signed artist’s proof; bottom left in graphite ‘Edward Slocombe’.

Description The River Cam runs through Cambridge. ‘The Backs’ refers to the various colleges along the river. Two figures can be seen in a small boat. The tower belongs to St John’s College Chapel designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott (1863-69). Scott was also responsible for the design of Dundee’s Albert Institute now The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum (1867-69).
